Here is an expanded version of the third item from my "Albany Insider" column from Monday's print editions:

As he prepares to seek re-election for the second time next year, state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has reached a personal fund-raising milestone.

Schneiderman on Monday will report having $7.5 million in campaign cash on hand, the most he’s ever had in the bank at one time, a source familiar with the filing said. By comparison, the AG had $4.2 million on hand at the same point in the 2014 election cycle.

He had $6.3 million in cash on hand in January, the last time he was required to file.

Schneiderman in his campagin finance disclosure form to be filed Monday raised $1.6 million over the past six months, the source said.

The statewide Democrat's warchest could serve to dissuade potential challengers while also providing a potential financial springboard should he choose to run for governor.

"If (Gov.) Cuomo's national ambitions create a vacancy, people are looking to Eric as the next governor and want to be on the team early,” said one insider.

Cuomo has said he will seek reelection in 2018. Those close to Scheiderman have said he has no plans to primary the governor and plans to seek a third term as attorney general.

So far no Republican has stepped forward to challenge Schneiderman.
