The drama comes from Gavin and Rebecca Scott and is set in a British boarding school where the Devil's own daughter is one of the pupils.

ZDF Enterprises, the commercial subsidiary of German broadcaster ZDF, is partnering with U.K. production banner Tuvalu Entertainment for One Bad Apple, a high-end female-led drama series billed as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Clueless meets Riverdale and The Omen, wrapped around Indiana Jones."

The drama, unveiled Thursday, was written by father-daughter duo Gavin Scott (The Young Indiana Jones, Small Soldiers) and Rebecca Scott (Discovery's Blood Relative, Murder Among Friends), and is set in and around a rural British boarding school after it takes in a new student: the Devil's own daughter. Enrolled at the school purposefully for its location near the burial place of The Holy Grail, which is preventing Satan's return to Earth, the new pupil – described as the "female equivalent of Darth Vader" – soon begins to spread her influence, but comes up against a plucky scholarship girl who, it transpires, comes from a long line of women sworn to defend the ancient artefact.

One Bad Apple is one of the most exciting television projects we have been involved with," said Gavin and Rebecca Scott. "We believe its combination of drama, satire, big ideas and supernatural adventure is what audiences worldwide have been seeking for a long time. To say nothing of the story's outrageous high-spirited fun."

ZDF Enterprises will co-produce and distribute One Bad Apple, written in 10 parts for season one, which is budgeted at around $14 million. Led by Paul Johnson, Tuvalu, which created and developed the drama, will executive produce.

One Bad Apple is, first of all, a great story. Gavin and Rebecca Scott formed the prefect team together with Paul Johnson and, working jointly during the last year, they have made it a great hit in waiting," said Robert Franke, vp drama for ZDF Enterprises. "We are very proud of the enormous potential of this rare female-inspired drama and were very pleased by the positive feedback from channels at our premiere private screening of One Bad Apple at Content London late 2017.”

Added Johnson: “We are thrilled to be working with Robert and the whole ZDF Enterprises team who are brilliant and so supportive. But more importantly, we are honoured to have developed this wonderfully strong female drama series with some of the best writers in the industry today, Gavin and Rebecca Scott. Sci-Fi shows just seem to find a large audience fast and we think One Bad Apple might do the same thing."

Casting for One Bad Apple is to be announced in the coming months.
