Lily Drinkwell has been involved in a heartbreaking self-harming storyline ever since receiving life-changing injuries in a car crash earlier this year.

Lauren McQueen’s character was injured in the Hollyoaks incident, when a huge log flew through the windscreen and hit her chest, leaving her scarred.

The teen has struggled to have confidence in herself and her appearance which has led to problems with her family and with her love interest Prince McQueen.

All that changed when her and Prince confessed their feelings for each other and slept together in Tuesday's first look episode but the idea of a future with her classmate proved too much for Lily in Wednesday's E4 episode and Lily turned back to hurting herself.

The actress recently teased what's ahead for her character in an exclusive chat with OK! Online

Lauren revealed: "Lily’s biggest secret is that she is self-harming and no one knows at this point, despite a few close calls. In order for Lily to get the help she needs her secret will have to be revealed at some point.

"Things may get worse before they get better, which means an even bigger secret could be coming up involving other characters!"

Over the next few weeks fans may see a change in the character, with Lauren revealing what was on the cards.

Lauren explained: “The viewers will get to see Lily’s rebellious side when she decides to bunk off school with her love interest, Prince.

"As she wrestles with the thought of self-harming, she is desperate to distract herself and forces her 'Miss Perfect' side to have more fun. As things start to get out of hand, her behaviour could also jeopardise things between her and Prince and put her in danger."

Hollyoaks airs weekdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look episodes straight after on E4.
