Japanese Rockers GLAY Joined Onstage in Taipei by Taiwanese Icons Mayday

On Saturday (March 17), fans in Taiwan had the chance to see the veteran Japanese band GLAY play live in concert at the Taipei Arena. Energy was abuzz in the venue as 8,000 people filled the arena and waited in anticipation for the Springdelics show to begin.

The atmosphere exploded as the stage went dark and the introductory music began blaring along with the visuals projected on the huge screen. The members appeared onstage and opened up the show with "The Other End of the Globe," the first song from their latest studio album, Summerdelics. This song is particularly well known in Taiwan because the four-member band performed it last year at the 28th Golden Melody Awards, the Taiwanese equivalent of the Grammys.

"Long time no see, Taiwan!" frontman TERU said, addressing the crowd using the local language. "It's good to be back! We missed you a lot. Let's make great memories together today!"

Before going into "Haru Wo Aisuru Hito," TERU spoke to the fans again: "We were fortunate enough to perform on this stage at the Golden Melody Awards last year, and are happy to be standing here again. Thank you! We'll pack lots of love into this next number."

For the encore, there was a surprise mass fan project where the sea of people held up signs that read, "TAIWAN (Hearts) GLAY." When the lights went back on, the crowd went ecstatic to see the members of the popular Taiwanese band Mayday onstage with the Japanese rockers.

The two bands performed Mayday's "Dancin' Dancin'" together, a collaborative song from 2013 featuring TERU on guest vocals and lyrics written by GLAY guitarist TAKURO. Then GLAY enlisted Mayday guitarist Monster to perform one of the band's biggest hit songs, "Yuuwaku," which set the crowd ablaze.

GLAY went on to play a few more songs, including "XYZ" from their latest album, before closing the set with "I'm in Love."

"We'll come back again for sure!" TERU assured fans and thanked them for helping make the Taiwan show a massive success.
