Sony Music Entertainment Australia has struck a new global distribution deal with UNIFIED Music Group, the Melbourne-based independent company that represents Illy, Nina Las Vegas, Northlane and many more.
With effect from March 1, Sony Music Entertainment, in partnership with its distribution arm The Orchard, provides worldwide distribution for UNIFIED’s Recorded Music division, which gathers six labels: UNFD (heavy music), ONETWO (hip-hop), NLV Records (club music), Exist. Recordings (electronic pop), THAA Records (up-and-coming Australian artists) and DOMESTIC LA LA (alternative rock).
“UNIFIED could not be happier to be embarking on this new relationship with Denis Handlin, Rob Stringer, Brad Navin and the entire Sony Music and Orchard team worldwide,” comments Jaddan Comerford, CEO and founder, UNIFIED Music Group. “We’ve been desperate for a global solution so we can continue to scale and provide opportunities to our artists in the ever-changing landscape that is recorded music.”
Denis Handlin, chairman and CEO, Australia & New Zealand and President, Asia, adds, “I am thrilled to announce the launch of this very special global distribution deal with UNIFIED. I have tremendous respect for Jaddan and the team at UNIFIED, and we have already celebrated some incredible achievements together. We look forward to furthering our partnership under this deal to a new level of success and growth by working with UNIFIED’s brilliant roster of artists and taking them to the next level in Australia and the world.”
Since launching in 2011, UNIFIED’s catalogue has collectively sold more than 800,000 albums worldwide, according to the company. Last year, the artists signed to its recorded music division were streamed 120 million times, up 74% on 2016, and the indie pressed more than 20,000 vinyl units across 25 titles.
UNIFIED says it will add recorded music staff in its Los Angeles and London offices in 2018.
